workspace wednesday | under the tree

workspace wednesday | ann-marie loves paper

Every night you can bet I’ll be setting up shop under the tree, working away on my laptop, listening to holiday music or a podcast, drinking tea (or wine, depending on what the night calls for) and making the very most of this month. As long as this tree sticks around, I’ll be around.

bridal shower of the century.

When I say “bridal shower of the century,” I’m not exaggerating. I think Jaymee’s shower (thrown by an insanely talented team, including Miss Style Eater!) definitely qualifies for that title. When I arrived a few hours early to help set up, I was immediately blown away by all the details: the food, the flowers, the table settings, the colors…the kind of details that Pinterest dreams are made of.

Nothing less than the best for the beautiful bride-to-be!

workspace wednesday: #onmydesk

John and I recently had a conversation about the longevity of social media outlets and how long we thought each one would last. I was trying to convince him that Instagram would be around for quite awhile. After all, why would Facebook invest a billion dollars in it if it didn’t have some sort of lasting potential…? But then again, maybe that’s just wishful thinking on my part since I eat/sleep/breathe the ‘Gram.

It’s pretty apparent by now that I take my Instagram very seriously. Waaaay more serious than the average bear. I set all sorts of rules + boundaries for myself. I agonize over what filter to use like my life depends on it. I also believe that less is more when it comes to hashtags. And by less, I mean no more than three. Not. Ever. All of the photos above are under the hashtag #onmydesk, which makes makes for a fun ongoing series that I am constantly adding to. It’s not exactly original (as made obvious by the 1000+ photos under that name), but it perfectly embodies what my day is looking like on any random Wednesday. Plus, it sure beats what’s going on behind the camera (#disheveledfreelancerwearingsweatpantsalldayeveryday).

Like I said, I have boundaries.

sabrina soto, you’re rocking my world.

Have you guys looked through the latest issue of HGTV Magazine? (A surprisingly great publication, by the way.)

There’s an article in it about Sabrina Soto’s clean-house tips and I can’t even tell you how inspiring it was to me. However, I can tell you that because of it, I am sitting in a very clean room right now. Typing on a very clean keyboard. Glancing over at my very clean shelves.

It was that good.

But then again, when is Sabrina Soto not inspiring? In case you missed it, here’s a tour of her home from an issue of Rue last year. Just look at that office…! What. That girl is something else.

grammin’ ain’t easy // why is it so hot outside edition

1. You guys, it’s hot outside. Like really hot. Yesterday I searched “why is it so (effing) hot in September” and Google just could not provide me with a solid answer. Disappointing, to say the least. Nonetheless, this month is just trucking along which can only mean one thing: the holidays are almost here! A few weeks back, I spent a little bit of time working on mock-ups for holiday cards and stamp designs for the upcoming season. All while it was 100+ degrees outside. Sounds about right.

2. On Friday I was lucky enough to meet up with my good friend Sarah + her husband Mike at Warner Brothers to take the VIP tour (led by her brother). It was the best. Really. We’re both pop culture fiends (we took the NBC tour together while in NYC last March), so it was super exciting to go behind the scenes. (Thrilling, actually.) There are a few things that I miss about Utah and Sarah is at the very top of that list.

3. While in San Diego last weekend, I spent a considerable amount of time digging through antique stores, looking for postcards of places that I’ve lived. I may or may not be planning out wedding decor in my head. Don’t tell anyone.

4. Last weekend, John and I stopped in Orange for a little Which ‘Wich (good lord, we’re obsessed) and right next door was a cute cupcake shop called Sugar Me Bakery. Quite honestly, it was the well-designed logo that caught my attention (design is everything, after all) and got me to spend a few dollars on super-rich cupcakes.

5. Anthropologie’s Fall decor. Need I say more? Sigh.

6. I’ve been to a different beach every weekend for the past couple of weeks and I plan on continuing this winning streak. Need to make up for all the time lost in landlocked Utah!

Instagram is life.

workspace wednesday: new supplies.

This past weekend in San Diego was quite successful when it came to finding new desk supplies that I probably didn’t need, but let’s face it, I totally needed. Between a visit to the swap meet and a stop at Fashion Valley Mall where I discovered my new favorite shop, Typo, I came home with some real gems.

I’m taking this stroke of luck as a sign that I need to move back to San Diego. Like, yesterday.

stamps, teal scissors, tape dispenser, double hole punch (a gift from Amy!): typo // stapler, red fringe scissors: kobey swap meet // neon pink ink: paper source // yellow tape: target

grow – cambria, ca

While in Cambria last weekend, I came across the most amazing little succulent shop called Grow. It’s not often that a store will blow me away with well-designed details and carefully-curated product selections, but this one stopped me dead in my tracks. I was (and still am!) completely obsessed. Words won’t do it justice, but if I could sum it up into a single phrase, I would describe Grow as the Anthropologie of succulent shops. It’s that good.

If my bank account would have allowed for it, I easily could have walked away with one of everything. Instead, I brought home that bright yellow pot that you see above and had a great time filling it with succulents yesterday. Like I mentioned on Instagram, I sense a new obsession coming on…

wedding weekend in cambria: part one.

This past weekend, I was up in Cambria celebrating Jamie + Kareem’s wedding (I’ve only talked about this event once, twice or maybe ten times on this blog). It really was the perfect weekend getaway for everyone, because quite honestly, you can’t beat 60 degree weather + those dramatic Central Coast ocean views. I got home late last night and instead of unpacking and climbing into bed, I immediately opened up Photoshop and started editing the almost 1300 (!) photos I took over the past 72 hours. And of course, once I start editing, I can’t stop myself! Here are a few photos from the big day:

It was such a great weekend. More photos to come!
