Autumn Leaves

This weekend I was on a mission to get fall photos of John and me before winter arrives (which according to the weather report, is next week). I decided Park City would be the perfect backdrop. And it was:

Now this was the autumn experience I was looking for! Tons of great photos. Quality time with the bf. Cozy fall weather. Dinner at Chipotle.

We give fall in Utah two thumbs up.

Proof…

that I really do get to play with paper for a living.

These layouts were designed for the weekly scrapbook challenges that Sarah, Lindsey, and I put together for each other. I have to say, it’s one of the BEST parts about my job!

For this layout, Sarah challenged us to go outside and snap pics using only our phones. Then we went back inside the office and scrapped 6×6 layouts using our new photos. Talk about a great way to shake things up! And it was a gorgeous Fall day, so no complaints from me….

This layout was based upon a graphic, simple image of a milk ad that I used as a sketch. I loved how easy it came together once I knew what the foundation would be! (Sidenote: I never used to use sketches, but lately they have been quite the lifesaver! which sounds like the most dramatic statement ever! yeesh…).

For this layout, Lindsey challenged us to stick strictly to a blue/green/yellow color palette. I loved having a limited choice as to what papers and embellishments I could pick, as I tend to include every shade of the rainbow on nearly all of my layouts! And of course, it was a layout about Disneyland. Of course.

For this challenge, I asked everyone to create a Fall-inspired layout (which is no hard task, considering the fact that fall here in Utah is GORG!). Taking pictures of the colorful landscape here has practically become a second job for me (aside from discovering “Only in Utah” gems, that is). I hear it will be gone before I know it, so I keep snapping away like a crazed tourist!

Finally, this card was made for a video tutorial I put together, which (and I don’t know what possessed me to share this!) you can watch here:

Banners and Cows

Fall is full speed ahead here in Utah and I am loving every minute of it. There’s even snow on the tips of the mountains, which quite honestly, is just about the most exciting thing ever. Finally I get to experience REAL WEATHER, PEOPLE! None of that Southern California nonsense. See for yourself:

So… across the street from our apartment is a huge open field with cows and horses! Only recently have they been coming close to the fence to graze in the grass, so everyday we go over and visit them. I love farm animals.

Lots of baby cows to gush over.

Idyllic, no?

There’s one cow in particular that stares us down as we walk along the fence. He’s keeping tabs on us, no doubt about it. We joke that if we were to look out our window at any given moment, his eyes would still be locked on us. Don’t mess.

On a somewhat different note, last weekend I busted out this Halloween banner after seeing so many cute banners floating around the blog world.

A mix of Elle’s Studio, American Crafts, vintage book paper, and lots of punches. All in a day’s work.

And for good measure, here’s a giant inflatable Mormon Missionary man. Because nothing screams Happy Friday in Utah more than a giant inflatable Mormon Missionary man.

Sometimes…

my judgement is clouded and I actually start to feel a sort of longing for school.

Fall, in general, always feels like a fresh start and makes me wish I was sitting in a lecture hall taking notes (seriously, I LOVED lecture classes!). But living in Utah has really exaggerated my desire to still be in college, with it’s cool mountain air, gorgeous autumn leaves, and small-town charm. (Which is totally strange, considering the fact that I went to college in San Diego. Not exactly the picture of seasonal changes. Or the picture of scholastic excellence, to be quite frank.) But as I page through my photos of the mountains from this past weekend, I start to reminisce about all the things I miss (or miss the idea of)…

Decorating my dorm. Visiting Starbucks before my 8AM Art History class to get a bagel and coffee. Reading magazines in the library in the big comfy armchairs. Taking TurboKick classes every Tuesday at the gym (and having to wait in line an hour before it started to make sure I got in. Going to Fashion Valley after class on Fridays. That class was a hot commodity!). Perusing the outdoor sales at the bookstore between classes.

Reading the Daily Aztec each day and filling out the Sudoku puzzles. Picking up art supplies from Blick (both the on-campus and Little Italy stores). Exploring San Diego on the weekends (especially when John came to visit). Visiting Julian in the Fall. Listening to my crazy, insane roommates talk about their latest drinking/partying binges (which in the case of one particular roommate, landed her in a jail in TIJUANA. Hello, idiot.).

Scoring our cute Mission Valley apartment for our last two years of college. Going to Chipotle. Riding the trolley. Cancelled classes. All of my favorite classes (History of Television, Psychology, Photography, Sociology, Health, etc.). Sitting on a bench outside the Business building, overlooking all of Mission Valley. Enjoying seasonal treats from Starbucks every year. Reading “Lucky” Magazine in the fall during class.

Election Day 2008. Having a week off school during the San Diego Fires. Decorating our apartment. Perusing the two-story Mission Valley Target for hours on end. Balboa Park. Seaport Village. Little Italy. Playing frisbee on the grassy knolls in La Jolla. Antiquing on Newport Ave in Ocean Beach. Having family come visit and making a mini vacation out of it. And the best part of all…

BACK TO SCHOOL SHOPPING!
